Michael Kotrozos ’97 Named Head Coach of Baruch College Women’s Basketball Team

Michael Kotrozos ’97 has been promoted to head coach of the women’s basketball team, it was announced by Director of Athletics & Recreation Heather MacCulloch.

Kotrozos becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the Baruch College women’s basketball program.

“We are excited about having Mike come on board in this new role as Head Women’s Basketball Coach,” said MacCulloch. “I believe he brings the kind of authentic knowledge of Baruch, Baruch women’s basketball and an overall support and guidance of our young women that could change the game for the College’s athletic program, and we are counting on him to take that lead.  I am confident that I can expect an upward momentum of our women’s program back to being one of the more prominent teams in the CUNYAC in years to come.”

Kotrozos spent the past 2016-17 season as an assistant coach. He was also previously on the staff for one year during the exciting CUNYAC Championship and NCAA Second Round 2014-15 season.

The native of Queens is a 1997 graduate of Baruch with a Degree in Psychology. He played four years (1993-’97) on the men’s basketball team under former Head Coach and Director of Athletics Ray Rankis.

He brings plenty of coaching experience to the program, which includes stops at Hunter College, where he worked for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

He started at Hunter in 2007 as an assistant to the men’s team and later combined duties with the women’s team during the 2009-’11 seasons. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the women’s team in 2012-’13.

Kotrozos has also worked on the coaching staffs at Division I Wagner College, powerhouse Christ the King Regional High School, and prominent AAU clubs NY Belles and New Heights.

“I want to thank Heather MacCulloch, President Mitchel B. Wallerstein and the search committee for selecting me to become the next Head Coach for Women’s Basketball,” said Kotrozos. “To be able to become a college head coach and do it at my alma mater is a dream come true. I will bring passion, hard work and a relentless competitive spirit to the women’s program. I want every student athlete that plays here to have a positive experience and be ready for all of life’s challenges after they graduate.”
