Head Women’s Basketball Coach Micha Thompson has announced that Meagan Henson will be the new assistant coach for the Peacocks. Henson comes to Upper Iowa after a four-year collegiate career at Texas Christian University, a one-year stint as a Student Assistant Coach with the Horned Frogs and a one-year stop as a graduate assistant at Angelo State University.
“I am thrilled to add Meagan to my staff,” said Thompson. “She is one of the top up-and-coming coaches and I am so excited for her to be a part of our Peacock family. She comes from a long line of great basketball coaches and will bring a great amount of passion and excitement to our program every day. Meagan played at a very high level as a point guard at TCU and knows the game inside and out. I’m excited that she has chosen Upper Iowa.”
Henson moves to the Peacocks after spending the last year in San Angelo, Texas at Angelo State, a member of NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. The ‘Belles went 24-8 last season and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
After her four-year career in the Mountain West and Big 12 conferences with TCU, she spent a season as a student assistant coach with the Horned Frogs getting a chance to experience first-hand what goes into running a successful program.
During her four seasons with TCU, she was named to the academic all-conference teams for the Mountain West as a freshman and sophomore and earned Big 12 honors as a junior (first team) and senior (second team). She played in 82 games for the Horned Frogs recording 140 points, 65 assists, 43 rebounds and 26 steals while shooting over 80% from the charity stripe. She scored a career high 13 points on the road at the University of New Mexico’s historic Pit arena.
While in high school, Henson led Christian Heritage Academy to a 22-0 record and was rated the fourth best senior in Oklahoma. Her stellar play propelled her to a McDonald’s All-American nominee.
