Marc Taney Tapped as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Newbury College

Newbury College Athletic Director Jonathan Harper announced that Marc Taney has been named as Newbury’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach, effective immediately.

Taney comes to Newbury from Springfield College, where he served as Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant. Prior to Springfield, he served as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Keene State College from 2012-2014.

“We are eager to welcome Marc to the Newbury College Athletic Department,” said Harper of Taney. “Marc’s knowledge of and passion for coaching, coupled with his spirited focus on recruiting student-athletes from across the nation, made him an ideal fit for this position and for Newbury. He has worked with proven coaches and has been a part of strong programs. I am delighted to welcome him to the Nighthawk Nation.”

Coupled with his College coaching experience, Taney has nine years of high school and national level AAU coaching experience as well. Taney’s specializations include team development, recruiting, and mentoring student-athletes through education and career path decisions.

“I am incredibly honored to be joining Newbury College as Head Women’s Basketball coach,” said Taney. “I would like to thank President Joseph Chillo and Jonathan Harper for providing me an opportunity to fulfill my dream of becoming a Head Coach. I look forward to working with the current student-athletes, as well as future student-athletes, toward cultivating a culture of success on and off the court here at Newbury College.”

Taney graduated from Western Connecticut State University summa cum laude with a BA in Psychology, and from Springfield College with an MS in Sport Management.
