Lynda Day has been named the head women’s basketball coach at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Athletic Director Carol Kashow has announced.
“It is an honor to be given this amazing opportunity to lead the John Jay Bloodhounds program,” said Day. “I am confident with hard work and consistency we will improve each day as athletes, students, and most importantly as people.”
Day comes to the Upper West Side after serving as the lead assistant coach at SUNY Old Westbury for five seasons. During the 2015-16 season, the Panthers advanced to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance after securing the 2016 Skyline Conference Championship. During her time there, she mentored seven all-conference selections, as well as coaching the league player, defensive, and rookie of the year honorees.
Prior to Old Westbury, she coached at the Mary Louis Academy for four seasons, CUNY Queens College for three seasons, and the New York City Heat AAU Basketball for six summers.
A graduate of Queens College in 2003, Day competed for the Knights’ NCAA DII women’s basketball team.
The first practice is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, with the first game one month later.
“The start of the season cannot come soon enough!” Day said.
