Loyola Names Frank Goldsberry Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Loyola University Chicago head women’s basketball coach Kate Achter announced the addition of Frank Goldsberry to her coaching staff on Tuesday.  Goldsberry, who will serve as an assistant coach, brings more than 40 years of coaching experience to Rogers Park.

“Frank’s basketball resume speaks for itself,” Achter said.  “He has won at every level he has ever coached at, dating back to his high school days at Chaminade-Julienne in Dayton, Ohio.  He is a lifelong student of the game and is committed to helping his players reach their full potential both on and off the floor, something I know our players will appreciate.  One of Frank’s best attributes is his energy and enthusiasm for improvement.  He is as committed as anyone I have ever seen when it comes to player and program development.  Frank wants to win at every level of his job.”

Goldsberry arrives at Loyola following a successful two-year stay as an assistant coach at Miami (Ohio).  During his time in Oxford, Ohio, the Redhawks posted consecutive 20-plus win seasons and earned back-to-back berths to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).  Five Redhawks earned All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) accolades over that stretch, led by two-time first team selection Lauren Dickerson.

Before making his way to Miami (Ohio), Goldsberry enjoyed a five-year stint at Milwaukee, spending his first four seasons as an assistant coach before being named associate head coach in 2016-17, a season in which he helped guide the Panthers to a 22-12 overall mark en route to reaching the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).

A graduate of Ball State, Goldsberry entered the college ranks in 2003 at Dayton, where he collected his Master’s degree in computer science, serving as the director of women’s basketball operations and video coordinator.  Prior to his time with the Flyers, he spent more than 20 years coaching high school basketball, most notably at Chaminade-Julienne High School in Dayton, Ohio.  Goldsberry amassed a 170-16 overall record from 1996-2003 as he led the Eagles to a pair of Division II state titles and a USA Today No. 1 national ranking.

“I had the opportunity to observe Coach Achter as a high school basketball player, college basketball player, and collegiate women’s basketball coach,” Goldsberry commented.  “The common themes that Kate demonstrated at each of these levels were her passion for the game, competitiveness, and her drive to motivate those around her to be the best they can be.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to assist Kate and the women’s basketball staff in taking Loyola to the top of the Missouri Valley Conference.”

“Basketball aside, Frank is a fantastic role model and we are just thrilled to be adding both he and his wife, Paula, to our basketball family,” Achter concluded.  “We can’t wait for him to get started.”

Loyola welcomes back 10 letterwinners from last season’s team, a group headlined by 2018-19 First Team All-MVC selection Abby O’Connor and Valley All-Freshmen Team honorees Allison Day and Janae Gonzales.
