Lipscomb Promotes Crothers to Assistant Coach

The Lipscomb women’s basketball team announced on Tuesday the promotion of Clay Crothers to assistant coach.

Crothers, who has been a part of the Lady Bisons’ staff for the past two seasons, is very familiar with the Lipscomb community having attended both Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University.

“I’m so excited to be joining the staff on a full-time basis,” Crothers said. “There is no place that I would rather be than Lipscomb. I have seen over the last 16 years what this campus has to offer, and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to help further instill its values in our program and in our community.”

Crothers will join the recently added Natalie Jarrett as well as returning assistant Courtney Locke to head coach Greg Brown’s staff for the upcoming season.

“Coach Brown has been an outstanding mentor, and I am fortunate to learn from all of his experiences. He has so much to offer as a coach and as a leader. I’m thankful to be surrounded by such an incredible staff and group of players, and I am anxiously looking forward to this season.”

Brown is excited for what Crothers’ will bring to the team both on and off the court.

“Clay has been with the program, and worked with us in several different capacities,” Brown said. “When we had the opportunity for an opening on the staff, we spent the summer looking around, but Clay fit what we wanted. You always want someone that you can trust, that is loyal to the program, that understands the culture of the school, that understands your team, and Clay fits all those. He brings a lot of energy, excitement and passion for the game, and I’m excited to work with him. Our team is too.”

He believes Crothers’ familiarity with the community will add a positive dimension to the coaching staff.

“Transitions on the staff are part of the business, so it’s great when you bring somebody in that’s so familiar with the community and wants so much to be here,” Brown said. “We like to bring in people that are familiar with the culture here, and Clay has been here since Pre-K. The energy that he brings to the court is something we’re looking forward to.”
