Latest Additions Bring Wealth Of Experience To UW Women’s Basketball Staff

Washington women’s basketball coach Tina Langley announced that Nolan Wilson, Maya Wilson and Buddy Donnelly will round out her staff for the 2021-22 season. Nolan will act as the Huskies’ Director of Analytics and Scouting, while Maya will serve as the team’s Chief of Staff. Donnelly will be the team’s Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Nolan has coaching experience at both the collegiate and NBA levels. He served with Langley in two stints at Rice during the 2020-21 and 2018-19 seasons. In his most recent role, he was an assistant coach on Langley’s staff. He helped the Owls win their third-consecutive Conference USA title and WNIT Championship.

Prior to that, he was the Owls’ Assistant Scouting and Recruiting Director. He helped Rice win 28 games and go undefeated, 16-0, in C-USA action. In addition to assisting in recruiting, Wilson evaluated Owls’ opponents by organizing and editing film while helping craft scouting reports.

In between his roles with Rice, Wilson worked with the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant coach in Player Development. Wilson assisted the coaching staff with on-court drills and the preparation of scouting reports. He worked closely with Player Development Coach, God Shammgod, and utilized RSPCT shot progression software to collect statistical shot tracking data.

The Laredo, Texas native worked closely with former All-Star Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry. In addition, Wilson assisted in simulating scout offense/defense and game day preparation.

A 2018 graduate at Prairie View A&M, Wilson played both football (defensive end) and basketball (forward) for the Panthers and after his playing days were over served as a graduate assistant on the basketball team.

In June of 2019, Nolan married Maya (formerly Hawkins). She was a standout player for Langley at Rice.

Maya completed her illustrious four-year career at Rice in 2017. She earned MVP honors after leading the Owls to their first-ever post-season title, capturing the WBI crown. Wilson left Rice as the school’s all-time leader in three-point makes (164), three-point attempts (505), career free-throw percentage (.817) and fourth in career assists (421). She also tallied 1,003 points, which ranked 16th all-time in school history.

Upon graduation, Wilson spent three years teaching special education in the Dallas Independent School District. She was nominated for Teacher of the Year at the end of her first year and was named the department chair in her second year. Wilson also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with Tarrant County where she was assigned cases and advocated to the court on behalf of children in foster care.

Wilson stayed active in basketball, forming a fourth and fifth grade girl’s basketball team in South Oak Cliff, Texas when she coached and mentored kids after school in 2019. During the 2020-21 season Wilson served as a volunteer coach at Rice and assisted with the program’s team travel, equipment and supported the day-to-day needs of the program.

Originally from Arlington, Texas, Wilson graduated from Lake Ridge High School where she was All-District 15-4A as a senior. She also won the Texas 4A State Championship and was selected MVP of the tournament with Summit High School in 2012.

Donnelly arrives at Montlake after he served in a similar role at Virginia Commonwealth University. He will oversee all aspects of strength and conditioning for the women’s basketball team, including working closely with the performance staff to provide nutrition and recovery strategies.

Donnelly served as the Director of Sports Performance for women’s basketball at his alma mater, VCU, for five seasons. In each of the last three seasons, VCU steadily improved, reaching the postseason all three years and culminated with a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2021.

In 2021, the Rams earned the Conference’s automatic bid by winning four games as the No. 5 seed to claim its first NCAA tournament bid since 2009. The Rams won 20 or more games in both 2020 and 2019, including 13-3 in A-10 play, and earned postseason WNIT bids in both seasons. They were co-champs during the regular season in 2019.

He graduated from VCU with a M.S. degree in Health and Movement Sciences in December 2016. Prior to that, in 2014, he graduated from VCU with a B.S. degree in Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. He currently holds the Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
