Director of Athletics Jessie Rosa and Head Coach Sean Page are pleased to announce the hiring of LaSheena Nation as Assistant Coach of the women’s basketball team. It was announced on Wednesday (May 1).
“I am incredibly humbled and honored that Coach Page and the AUM administration have chosen me to serve as the assistant coach of the program,” Nation said. “I am truly blessed for this opportunity to join the Warhawk family, and work for a program with a tradition of excellence both on the court and in the classroom. I would also like to thank God and my family. Without them, I would not be able to continue doing what I love.”
Nation comes to AUM from Snead State Community College in Boaz, Ala., where she has served as the Assistant Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the past two seasons. Under Nation’s guidance, the Lady Parsons added 13 wins to their total in 2018-19 from 2017-18, while earning a spot in the 2019 Alabama Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.
“We’re extremely excited to add Coach Nation to our AUM Women’s Basketball family,” Coach Page said. “LaSheena is one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the state of Alabama, and her connections at the high school and junior college levels will prove to be beneficial in recruiting. She’s an outstanding coach, and will help our program from the moment she steps on campus.”
Prior to her assistant coaching position at Snead State, Nation served as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at G.W. Carver High School here in Montgomery, Ala. for two seasons. While at Carver, Nation helped lead the Lady Wolverines to two area championships, a 6A Regional Championship and an appearance in the AHSAA Women’s Basketball Final Four during the 2016-17 campaign.
Nation played collegiately at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala. from 2009-2011, where she helped lead the Lady Lions to an Alabama Community College Conference Championship during the 2010 season. Nation also played for two seasons at Spring Hill College, where she holds the record for most three-pointers made in a game (8). Nation also holds the record for most three’s made in a single game at Wallace State Community College (9).
Nation attended Hanceville High School in Hanceville, Ala. where she holds the school and Cullman County record for most career points scored by a female basketball player, amassing 2,715 points over her prep career.
In addition to coaching, Nation has excelled in the field of athletic communications and public relations. As an undergraduate, intern and professional, she has gained experience in public relations, social media campaigning and analytics, fundraising, search engine optimization, website development, event planning, and grant writing. She has expertise in working in the non-profit sector, professional sports’ organizations, healthcare industries and individuals’ business marketing needs for various target audiences.
Nation earned her master’s degree in applied technology from Alabama State University in 2017, focusing in website design and social media. She received her bachelor’s degree in communication arts from Spring Hill College in 2014, focusing in public relations and advertisement. She also holds an associate degree in education from Wallace State Community College.
The Colony, Ala. native is the daughter of Sharon Nation.
