Ashley Langford has joined the James Madison women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach, announced by Head Coach Sean O’Regan on Tuesday.
“We are very pleased to add Ashley to our staff,” O’Regan said. “She has a wealth of experience in basketball and will be able to jump into our culture immediately. We took a good look at a lot of different candidates, but Ashley proved that she was the right fit for this position.”
Langford was most recently an assistant coach at Old Dominion, serving as floor coach for the guards. Prior to her stop at Norfolk, she was the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for post players at the U.S. Naval Academy.
She got her coaching start as a graduate assistant at Auburn from 2009-11, overseeing the practice players program while assisting the recruiting and video coordinators. She moved on to Bucknell for the 2011-12 season before heading to Denver for three years, where she coached the guards and developed an offensive scheme for the program.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the JMU community and Coach O’Regan’s staff,” Langford added. “The tradition of women’s basketball here speaks for itself and Coach O has been a vital part of this success. I’m excited to learn and grow under his tutelage. In addition, I look forward to developing these young women on and off the court, as well as capturing another CAA title.”
Langford was a four-year standout guard at Tulane from 2005-09, concluding her career as the all-time assists leader (722). In 2009, she was Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year and an all-conference selection. She also completed the WBCA “So You Want to be a Coach” program and served as president of Tulane’s Student Athlete Advisory Council.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in management from Tulane in May 2009 and completed Auburn’s MBA program in May 2011.
JMU is coming off a 26-9 season, O’Regan’s first at the helm. The Dukes advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association title game for a fourth straight year before making it to the third round of the WNIT, taking down Radford and Virginia at home.
