Krystal Wells Named Assistant at Colby College

Krystal Wells, an assistant coach at Regis College and an NCAA Division I player at Long Island University, was named assistant coach for the Colby College women’s basketball team Monday.

Wells will work under Colby head coach Julie Veilleux, who led the Mules to a 16-9 record last season. Colby returns four starters and has 10 returning players for the 2015-16 season.
“I am very excited about the future of our program and the strengths and new skills Krystal will bring,” Veilleux said. “I believe her basketball and coaching journey is a successful reflection and example of hard work, passion, and dedication.”
Wells, who earned her master’s degree in her two years at Regis, helped the Pride to two New England Collegiate Conference championships. Regis made two NCAA appearances, had a 45-11 overall record, and was 36-0 in league play.
“Krystal helped contribute to some great success at Regis in a short amount of time,” Veilleux said. “Her personality and leadership will be a wonderful addition for our prospects, players, as well as the Colby and Waterville community.”
Wells was a four-year player at Long Island University and led the Blackbirds to a 69-53 record in her collegiate career. A team captain, she was second in scoring (10.1) and first in 3-point field goal percentage (35) as a senior. Wells, a dean’s list student in all semesters, finished her LIU career with 135 made 3-point shots.
A Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native, Wells was a three-time team MVP at Douglas County (Ga.) High School. She was her league’s top player in her final two high school seasons.
“Krystal has had the opportunity to live and be a part of many different communities in the last 10 years or so,” Veilleux said. “I am thrilled she chose Colby as her next home. It’s great timing for Colby because we are ambitiously heading toward excellence in all areas of our community.”
