Kerri Nakamoto Resigns After Five Seasons at Cal State Monterey Bay

Kerri Nakamoto is stepping down as the head coach of the Cal State Monterey Bay women’s basketball program after guiding the program for the past five seasons.

Nakamoto led CSUMB to a 38–95 record during her tenure, including a 6–21 mark during the 2017–18 season. He 38 victories rank No. 3 all–time on the Otter women’s basketball coaching list.

“We are thankful to Kerri for her five years of service to Otter Athletics and to CSUMB,” says Director of Athletics Kirby Garry. “She has worked tirelessly in support of her student-athletes. Kerri is leaving CSUMB as a highly respected professional both on and off campus for her contributions to our university and local communities. We wish her the best moving forward.”

Nakamoto joined the Otters for the 2013–14 season as the sixth coach in CSUMB women’s basketball history. She made the short trip up Highway 101 following a distinguished career as the lead assistant coach at Big West Conference member Cal Poly. She also served as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego following a 4–year playing career with the Toreros.
