Jump Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Wright State

Abby Jump, an assistant coach at Morehead State and former WSU standout, has joined the Wright State women’s basketball staff in a similar position, Raider head coach Katrina Merriweather announced.

The Union, KY native returns to a Wright State program that she helped guide to the 2014 NCAA Tournament as a junior under head coach Mike Bradbury.  During her stint at WSU, the Raiders accumulated an 84-49 record.   As a junior and senior, she ranked first in the Horizon League in three-point percentage, shooting 46 percent from three-point and tied for 12th in the league in three-pointers made with 25 her senior year.

“Bringing Abby back home was a no brainer,” Merriweather said.  “She has done everything a young coach should that wants to get into the profession. She exhibits the qualities that are vital in a successful program. She has an exemplary work ethic and tremendous passion not only for basketball but for Wright State. She knows what it takes to win a Championship and she is determined to pass that knowledge to our kids.”

In her two seasons at Morehead State, Jump helped guide the Eagles to a 42-21 record under head coach Greg Todd.  The Eagles reached the 20-win plateau for just the seventh and eighth time in school history, resulting in the program’s first-ever appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in 2017.  It was theie first post-season appearance since 2010.

“I would like to thank Coach Merriweather for providing me an opportunity to come back home and coach at Wright State,” Jump said.  She had been such an influence in my coaching career and I look forward to continue to grow under her tutelage, This University, our Women’s Basketball program, and the community mean so much to me ever since I was fortunate enough to don a WSU jersey. I am excited to share her vision and assist in continued success of this program!”

Jump came to Morehead State after spending 2015-16 as the director of women’s basketball operations at Bucknell University, where she was responsible for creating weekly schedules, sending out recruiting mailers, arranging team travel, and coordinating the team’s community service efforts.

Jump graduated from Wright State with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership in 2014.  She played high school basketball at Ryle, and at the time of graduation, ranked fifth all-time in Kentucky with 81 three-pointers made.
