Josh Ashley Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at North Alabama

Josh Ashley has been named an assistant coach for the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team. UNA head coach Missy Tiber added Ashley to her staff after he spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at West Texas A&M, where he helped lead the Lady Buffs to an appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last year.

“Josh has spent the last two seasons as part of a very successful program at West Texas A&M University,” said Tiber. “It was important for me to add to our staff someone who has experienced success and understands the work ethic involved in building a winning program on and off the court. I am extremely excited to have Josh. He has a great personality and will do an excellent job building relationships with recruits and our current players. He will also bring tons of energy and a different perspective to our staff.”

While at WTAMU, Ashley helped with recruiting and scouting reports as the Lady Buffs won a conference championship in the 2015-16 season before winning the NCAA South Central Region title last year.

Ashley was named assistant woman’s basketball coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College in August 2012 and helped lead the Lady Mountaineers to a 21-12 record in the 2014-15 campaign.

From 2010-12, he spent two seasons as the men’s basketball graduate assistant at Angelo State, where he helped with on-the-floor recruiting and administrative duties. He also assisted the men’s basketball strength and conditioning program. He earned his master’s degree in coaching, sports recreation and fitness administration in August of 2012.

Ashley graduated from Tarleton State with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports studies in December of 2008. While at TSU, he interned with the strength and conditioning program and worked with track and field, basketball, baseball and football.

He is a native of Kilgore, Texas, where he starred in both football and basketball at Kilgore High School.  He and his wife Tish have three children, Josiah (5), Kaleb (3) and Nathan (6 months).
