The Position:

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Women’s Basketball Coach provides leadership in developing an effective women’s basketball program. This position will supervise the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, and will assist with their selection and evaluation. In addition, the position recruits student-athletes for the women’s team and provides skills development opportunities for “walk-on” players. Close cooperation with the Office of Admissions is expected as is adherence to USCAA policies and procedures. The selected candidate will be responsible for game day management for other sports as well as conducting intramural sports and recreational pursuits.

 

The coach will also assist the Sports Information Director (SID) with entering rosters, schedules, and game results for athletic teams on the website.  The coach will be expected to contact the media to ensure they are informed of upcoming events, provide post-contest information, and work closely with the College communications and marketing staff.

 

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Represents the department at campus and community events.
  • Assists with the Department’s strategic initiatives and special projects.
  • Helps promote College athletics and facilities throughout the community.
  • Coordinates setup and take down at home athletic contests (game day management) as needed.
  • Works effectively with officials, the athletic trainer, and visiting team coaches.
  • Trains and schedules student workers.
  • Assures a safe and enjoyable experience for visiting teams and spectators.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to the Director of Athletics.
  • Serves as a role model for student athletes.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters in Sports Management or related field preferred.
  • Two years as a high school or college basketball coach; comparable experience may be considered.
  • Proven ability to recruit women to the programs.
  • Experience in the field of media relations or public information using traditional as well as digital media.
  • Knowledgeable in compiling statistics and statistical reports; professional experience specific to sports information preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and technology skills.
  • Effective both as a leader and as a collaborator.
  • Record of teaching and modeling character, values, and responsibility,
  • Flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and travel as required.
  • Possess or is willing to complete CPR and First Aid certification;
  • Driver’s license and driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier.
  • Employment may be subject to a background check.
