The Head Coach has the responsibility of administering and supervising all aspects of the program.

Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment
• Evaluate and extend scholarship opportunities to high-quality student athlete prospects.
• Coordinate and oversee a system of effectively recruiting quality student-athletes.
• Develop and execute effective recruiting communications as allowed by NCAA
• Attend high school and/or junior college contests for the purpose of evaluation and contact.
• Plan productive campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents

Teaching
• Teach advanced level skills and game strategies.
• Prepare, plan, and conduct practice sessions, individual workouts, and out-of-season activities
• Teach student-athletes specific techniques and skills to maximize their individual athletic abilities.
• Serve as a mentor to athletes, helping resolve academic and non-academic issues.
• Maintain, teach and develop a comprehensive knowledge of the rules, fundamentals, strategies and nuances of the sport.

Team Administration
• Plan long and short term objectives.
• Establish requirements for team member’s academic progress leading to retention and graduation.
• Establish and distribute written team rules, applying discipline consistently and fairly.
• Embrace and promote academic achievement in coordination with Academic Services staff.
• Promote, foster and establish a culture of compliance with all NCAA rules, including timely completion of all required compliance paperwork and procedures.
• Manage budget according to department and university guidelines.
• Completion of all necessary compliance documentation under the direction of the compliance office.

Public Relations
• Perform public speaking engagements to promote the program and university
• Positively and constructively carry-out all tasks related to effective communication with media.
• Recommend policies and procedures for all student-athlete handbook
• Serve in leadership role and promote participation in community service activities by student-athletes.
• Effectively work with appropriate staff to carry-out program fund-raising and promotional activities.
• Coordinate community service and MSU athletics-to-school programs under the direction of the Marketing and Promotions Office
• Develop and operate successful summer camps bringing prospective students to the Murray State campus.

Other Duties
• Be knowledgeable of NCAA and OVC rules.
• Secure a competitive home and away schedule each year that is most advantageous to the development and advancement of the program at the NCAA Division I level.
• Other duties as assigned.
• As a member of the Murray State University Athletic Department, you shall comply with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations as provided in the NCAA Division I Manual. If you are found in violation of NCAA regulations, you shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.
