POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Head Women’s Basketball Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ.  This not only means having the correct intellectual belief, but it involves a radical transformation in every area of one’s lifestyle.  The Coach must continually seek opportunities to grow and possess strong character traits through the regular practicing of the spiritual disciplines (e.g. prayer, meditation, Bible reading) and develop ministry values that express what God can do in impacting student athletes with whom they interact. 
  • The Coach’s ministry strategy is to serve student athletes and the entire campus by creating a spiritually rich environment supporting community development, quality programs and exciting innovative initiatives. 
  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate teaching competence and integration of personal faith and the truths of Christianity with instruction in the classroom and on the field.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: 

This position reports to the Director of Athletics and the Chair of the Division of Health and Human Performance

Duties

For Athletics, the primary responsibilities are to direct, support and supervise a successful intercollegiate baseball program representing assistant coaches and student athletes.  The Head Coach is responsible for the baseball budget, strategic planning, fields and facilities, policies, compliance, scholarships, promotion and leadership of the team.  The Head Coach will also be assigned a teaching load to be determined on the basis of background and experience.  

  • Develop, manage, and successfully coach the sport of women’s basketball including practices, games, scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics.
  • Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception. Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by Director of Athletics.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Crossroads League, NAIA, and NCCAA by-laws and regulations.
  • Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance and retention to graduation of student-athletes.
  • Ensure the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
  • Supervise and mentor coaching assistants as directed and approved by Director of Athletics.
  • Manage the operations of sport camps and/or clinics.
  • Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manuals.
  • Teaching load is required within the Division of Health and Human Performance and a commitment to excellence in the teaching setting is expected.  Additional non-traditional season coaching duties may be required.
  • Plan and implement daily practice sessions.
  • Communicate with officials and officials’ assignor.
  • Work closely with Facilities and Grounds workers to insure proper upkeep of athletic facilities.
  • Effectively teach assigned courses.

Experience:

  • Must have some level of experience in coaching and teaching (Minimum of 2 years at the college level).that includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care.

Required Skills:

  • Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment.
  • Needs to passionately support and articulate the University mission and vision for athletics within the context of that mission.
  • Must have an earned Master’s Degree. Preference given to degrees within the fields of Sport and Recreation Management, Health, Physical Education and Human Performance.
  • Need to be gifted in supervising and motivating others.
  • Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church.
