Position duties, responsibilities and competencies:

Conduct of the Women’s Basketball program that, as a demonstration of quality and success, (1) consistently places in the top 50 percent of its conference, qualifies for conference championship play; (2) maintains an exemplary student-athlete academic success rate (95 percent graduation rate, less than 5 percent academic failure rate, 75 percent retention rate, average GPA 2.5 or better); and (3) demonstrates positive personal development of student-athletes whose behavior and public representation of SUNY Maritime College is exemplary at all times.

Primary Responsibilities: ‘I

  • Design and implement a training program that advances individual and team performance skills, to support the achievement of the program’s purpose
  • Advance each student-athlete’s level of knowledge with regard to sport nutrition, biomechanics, exercise science, and sport psychology as it relates to improvement of sport performance
  • Design a competitive schedule that maximizes athlete development and performance
  • Recruit high-quality athletes capable of performing at desired levels
  • Recruit athletes capable of completing the baccalaureate degree and performing academically at levels reflecting program objectives
  • Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member
  • Demonstrate master teaching competencies with regard to (a) sport skill instruction, (b) motivation, and (c) coaching skills during competitive events
  • Relate well to: administrators, officials, high school coaches, parents, the media, alumni, donors, and the public
  • Provide strong leadership in the personal development of student-athletes as demonstrated by high standards of behavior and good public speaking skills of all team members
  • Demonstrate a high level of involvement in the personal and academic development of student-­ athletes through the support of the department’s academic and personal development programs serving those student-athletes
  • Manage a cost-effective and administratively efficient sport program
  • Exhibit good writing and speaking abilities
  • Train and supervise assistant coaches toward the end of developing head coach capabilities and supporting all program objectives
  • Adhere to department policy regarding coaches code of ethics
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, (b) respect for the competencies of others, and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior

Game Day Administrator Position Duties:

  • Execute all duties and responsibilities as assigned in the administration of the athletic department game day management protocols to include, but not limited to:
  • Organize and run weekly meetings in conjunction with the Sports Information Director, Athletic Trainer, Game Day Supervisors, and other members of the athletics staff
  • Prepare game day schedules with facilities administrator, sports information director, athletic trainer, officials, and opposing schools
  • Work with business manager to ensure all necessary officials and student-employment paperwork is filled out and administered correctly
  • Work with Sports Information Director to set up training/tutorial days for all game day supervisors as well as student-workers
  • Responsible for ensuring all game day events are fully and appropriately staffed throughout the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Responsible for making sure University Police is aware of the game day schedules and the details of who will be coming to campus from outside entities
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, (b) respect for the competencies of others, and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior
  • Responsible for attendance at all mandatory Athletic staff meetings

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management or related field.
  • Proven ability to perform administrative aspects of the basketball program
  • One to three years of experience as a college assistant or head coach
  • Have knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
  • Certified in First Aid, AED, and CPR currently
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills are essential
  • Ability to recruit student athletes, develop successful programs and maintain operations (budget, equipment ordering, NCAA eligibility, game management, etc.) is required
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License. Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Sports Management, business administration or related field.
  • Coaching certification from national agency of issuance.

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Head Women’s Basketball Soccer Coach/Game Day Administrator, is a full time, United University Professions (UUP) position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $48,000 – $53,000, annually, with an outstanding benefits package.
