Description:

The head coach for women’s basketball is a full time position dealing with the management of all facets of the women’s basketball program to produce an athletically competitive, academically successful and socially responsible team.

Head coaching responsibilities to include but are not limited to: game and practice coaching; program administration; budget management; involvement in campus, alumni, constituent and community engagement; recruiting; supervision of assistant coach(es); supervision of camps and direct involvement in program-specific fundraising efforts; recommending a schedule of competitions; coordination of team travel; monitoring of academic progress, retention and counseling of student-athletes; creation of an environment where degree attainment is a priority; and compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations. It is expected that the program will be conducted with honesty and sportsmanship at all times within the rules and regulations of the CCAA and the NCAA.

Responsibilities

Coaching and program administration:

  • Complete day-to-day planning and supervision of practices and competitions for basketball.
  • Work with sport supervisor and / or appropriate department staff to schedule competitions and order necessary equipment and uniforms within budget used department guidelines.
  • Plan and complete all team travel arrangements including cash advances and billing for hotel, air transportation, ground transportation and meals working with the department business manager and / or designated staff member.
  • Attend all department and assigned staff meetings.
  • Complete any and all required department, campus, CSU, CCAA and NCAA trainings.

Academic progress and compliance:

  • Work with academic advisor, compliance office and student-athlete to ensure all student­-athletes make progress towards degree completion and graduation.
  • Complete all department and NCAA requirements for compliance including, but not limited to, weekly playing and practice hours, weekly recruiting logs and team updates for squad lists.
  • Work through compliance for admission of student-athlete through both university and NCAA Eligibility Center requirements. Attend rules education meetings.

Recruiting:

  • Following NCAA Division II, CCAA and department guidelines recruit prospective student-athletes at a level to compete in the CCAA and NCAA successfully.
  • Travel to appropriate competitions to evaluate.
  • Plan and complete official and unofficial visits on campus for prospective student-athletes.

Community, Department, and Constituent Engagement:

  • Plan for and facilitate the involvement of basketball student-athletes in appropriate community engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure that basketball student-athletes participate in the Student Athlete Advisory Council.
  • Prepare and execute annual program plans for the purpose of the engagement of constituents (e.g., alumni; fans; parents) and program specific fundraising efforts.

Other Duties As Assigned

  • Complete other duties as assigned (ex. serve on pertinent department and campus committees as needed)
