Description:
The Graduate Assistant will report to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach & Athletic Director. The successful candidates will work a 10-month appointment for the 2023-2024 academic year with the opportunity for renewal of a second year. Each graduate assistant will receive a full scholarship that includes tuition, room and board, and an annual stipend of $4,000, paid bi-weekly. This position will remain open until filled. The anticipated start date for the positions will be August 1, with the potential for a mutually-agreed upon earlier start date and summer employment.
Essential Job Functions:
To be eligible, prospective candidates must be accepted into one of the Master’s or Doctorial programs at the University of the Virgin Islands. The Graduate Assistant will report directly to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach & Athletic Director, and will gain experience assisting with all aspects of a NAIA women’s basketball program & UVI Athletic facilities.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Coaching/Facility Duties Assist with all aspects of the women’s basketball program, including:
1. Planning and execution of practice
2. Player development
3. Opponent scouting
4. Film breakdown
5. Recruitment of student-athletes
6. Travel and operational logistics
7. Organizing camps and clinics
8. Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes
9. Consistently demonstrate a positive team player attitude, building and maintaining professional working relationships with all departmental staff, including but not limited to the athletics administration.
10. Represent the athletics department through collaboration with a variety of campus groups.
11. Represent the athletics department appropriately and intentionally through community involvement, speaking engagements, media responsibilities, etc…
12. Represent UVI as appropriate with the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) and the NAIA.
13. Assist in facility rental/ game-day operational set-ups.
14. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal skills
• The ability to exhibit professionalism and maintain confidentiality
• The ideal candidate will have experience as a student-athlete, manager, and/or coach in a college basketball program
