Description:

The University of Portland seeks an Assistant Coach for Women’s Basketball. The University of Portland is a National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I institution and West Coast Conference (WCC) member located in Portland, Oregon. This regular, full-time position will be responsible for supporting the Head Coach in developing high-performance student athletes. The primary duties of this position consist of instructing student-athletes in the skill development for their sport, as well as physical health, teamwork, safety, and other instructional areas related to student-athlete sport development.

Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Conduct individual and group instruction in sport-specific skills, as well as conducting instruction related to strength and conditioning training activities.
  • Conduct individual, small group and team meetings to provide skill and sport-related performance development instruction to students (video/data review).
  • Prepare/assist with preparation of instruction, i.e., practice plans for team training and practice sessions; analyze data and results from practice and competition to include in individual and group instruction.
  • Attend all competitions in order to provide instruction; assist with athlete preparation and execution; including strategy, data collection and continual coaching.
  • Engage in projects and tasks related to compliance by the womens basketball program with all applicable policies and procedures, including those of the NCAA, WCC, and University.
  • Oversight of team defense implementation and strategies.
  • Primary recruiting contact for prospective high school student athletes.
  • Responsible for oversight of instruction and player development of post players.
  • Support in the transport of Athletics staff and/or student athletes to and from locations as needed to meet the demands of Team travel and events, using rental vehicles and University owned vehicles.
  • Other instructional duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Assist with recruitment efforts to attract high quality student athletes with a commitment to academic success.
  • Assist with administration of team equipment and travel arrangements.
  • May assist with administrative activities to support the function of the program, such as maintaining contact information, preparing recruitment materials, performing alumni and community outreach, and any other duties deemed necessary for program operation.
