STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach will assist in managing all aspects of the basketball program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, effectively recruiting qualified student-athletes; supporting all aspects of practice and game preparation, including practice planning, on-court coaching and individual player skill development, opponent scouting, film breakdown and writing scouting reports. The Assistant Coach will manage the team social media platforms, coordinate and organize summer and elite camps, and assist with the day-to-day office operations, fundraising, and administrative tasks.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recruit eligible and appropriate prospects for the women’s basketball team. Evaluate playing ability and academic standing.
  2. Attend recruiting events throughout spring and summer and high school games in the winter to identify prospective student-athletes. Establish relationships and maintain contact with recruits, parents, and AAU/HS coaches.
  3. Schedule all campus visits for recruits, lead campus tours, and coordinate visit schedule with coaches and team.
  4. Conduct individual workouts for players, lead positional drills in practices, design and implement skill segments in practices, and assist in teaching in other drills as needed.
  5. Set up gym for practices and coordinate schedule with student-assistant and manager to run scoreboard.
  6. Compile scouting reports using film (via Synergy) to study opponent sets, tendencies, and personnel, etc. Prepare clips to watch at film sessions and for scouting report preparation.
  7. Game day preparation: set up gym for film, coordinate with manager to film all home games, prepare all materials for game day.
  8.  Film Exchange: upload all film from home games to Synergy, back up all film to external hard drive, share non-conference film with any requesters via Dropbox, Google Drive, or Synergy.
  9.  Manage all social media platforms for team including: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  10.  Assist with all facets of fundraising for the program: work AAU tournaments and manage concessions, manage social media fundraising campaign, and assist in the coordination of all aspects of annual Fundraising Dinner.
  11. Design monthly/quarterly newsletter using online Canva software and distribute via FrontRush to 500+ recipients (recruits, alumnae, players, families, and fans.)
  12. Promotion and organization of Summer Kids Camps and Elite Prospect Camps.
  13. Perform administrative tasks in the office, such as: handwritten notes to recruits, alumnae, etc. Transfer all drills/handwritten scouts/sets into FastDraw software to electronically store and distribute.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required: Experience playing college basketball and/or working with women’s basketball student-athletes at the college level. Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Must be detail/results oriented; able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred: Previous college coaching experience. Understanding of and experience with Division III Women’s Basketball Student-Athletes. Familiarity with Synergy, FrontRush, and FastDraw. Experience with recruiting student-athletes and evaluating talent.
