Description:

Under general direction of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the coach will assist with all aspects in the management of a competitive NCAA DII women’s basketball program, managed in accordance with NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), and Hillsdale College policies and regulations. Areas of responsibility include: on-court coaching, recruitment of student-athletes, student-athlete development, and assist in management of budget, travel and equipment; assist with fundraising and community engagement activities; adherence to NCAA/GMAC legislation, and other duties as assigned.  This is a part-time, stipend position.

 

  1. Plan and execute basketball strategy and skill development routines for athletes.
  2. Instruct athletes in proper techniques for each position as applicable.
  3. Carry out practice and meet related duties as assigned by Head Coach or the Athletic Director.
  4. Foster a positive and competitive environment.
  5. Provide support to academics, and follow NCAA compliance guidelines
  6. Assist with team administrative operations as directed
  7. Assist with fundraising opportunities and community engagement activities as assigned.
  8. Scout, contact and develop relationships with prospective student-athletes; communicate Hillsdale College principles, views, and academic rigorous environment to prospective student-athletes.
  9. Successfully recruit highly competitive student-athletes.

 

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

 

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Studies or related field preferred.  Previous experience coaching or playing basketball is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

  1. Average physical strength is required. 2. Must be able to ambulate, step, climb, stoop, bend twist and carry heavy objects over uneven terrain. 3. Must be able to demonstrate movements in which athletes are being trained. 4. Must be able to hear, see, talk, read and communicate with Hillsdale College colleagues, athletes, prospective athletes, donors and other constituents orally and in writing. 5. Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds of athletic equipment regularly.

 

Other Skills

  1. Knowledge of NCAA rules & regulations. 2. Knowledge of technique and basketball strategy. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express effectively ideas orally and in writing.
