Jessica Salera Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Southern Arkansas

Southern Arkansas head women’s basketball coach Julio Pacheco has announced the hiring of Jessica Salera as the program’s assistant coach.

Salera, a native of West Palm Beach, Fla., comes to SAU after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. While at Sam Houston, Salera assisted in numerous aspects of the Lady Bearkat program.

Among those, Salera was in charge of team travel and handing of game film. Additionally, Salera assisted in guard and post player development, recruiting, and scouting reports.

Prior to her time at Sam Houston, Salera spent time as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at her alma mater, Tennessee Temple University (Chattanooga, Tenn.). In that role, Salera spearheaded all of the recruiting efforts for the Lady Crusaders and was responsible for guard development through individual drills.

Salera also has extensive experience coaching summer camps and showcases as well as AAU basketball.

As a player at Tennessee Temple, Salera scored over 1,000 career points and totaled over 500 rebounds. During her career, Salera was named NCCAA National Player of the Week as well as being an Academic All-American through the NCCAA and the USCAA. Additionally, Salera was twice named as the team’s Most Outstanding Player.

Salera earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Physical Education at Tennessee Temple and a Master’s of Art degree in Health Sciences from Sam Houston State.
