Jamie Hensley Named Wilmington University Women’s Basketball Head Coach

The Wilmington University Director of Athletics Dr. Stefanie Whitby is pleased to remove the interim tag from Jamie Hensley, officially naming her the head coach of the women’s basketball program starting immediately.

“We are thrilled that Jamie accepted the position as head women’s basketball coach,” Dr. Whitby stated. “As interim coach last year, she proved that she is not only passionate about WilmU, but knowledgeable and driven to build a successful program.”

A former student-athlete and former assistant coach, Hensley knows what it takes to don the green and white and be a part of a successful program.

“I am extremely honored to be named the head women’s basketball coach at Wilmington University,” Hensley said. “As a former student-athlete and assistant coach at the University, I have an enormous amount of pride and love for the women’s basketball program. The WilmU community has been my family since 2006 and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to return to the place I consider home. I look forward to building continued success on and off the court, as well as building stronger relationships with the community and alumni. I am excited to start this next chapter of my life and to be part of the Wildcat Family.”

Hensley graduated from Wilmington University in 2010 after a successful playing career under former coaches Bill Cleary and Rob Miller. She rejoined the Wildcats as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2013 before moving on to take the Tome School head varsity girls coaching position in North East, Maryland, for four seasons. She then returned to WilmU as an assistant coach this past season before being named the Interim Head Coach on January 4.

In her first official game as the Interim Head Coach, Hensley helped guide the Wildcats to a 77-59 win over Nyack on January 5. She also led the team to wins over Caldwell, Felician, Bloomfield, Chestnut Hill, and Holy Family, and had the team in a win-and-in position in the final regular season contest at Goldey-Beacom.
