Saint Francis women’s basketball coach Joe Haigh has announced Matthew Huddleston as the associate head coach for the Red Flash for the 2018-19 season.

“I’m really excited to be able to welcome Matt to our staff and the Saint Francis family this season,” Coach Haigh said.

Huddleston served on the Eagles’ coaching staff from 2012 through 2015, helping the Eagles reach the 2014 NCAA tournament and the 2013 WNIT second round before heading up the Georgia Metros Club basketball team, one of the top AAU programs in the country.

“Matt was a part of a very successful run and a championship program at Winthrop University, and has a wealth of experience coaching at the highest level of summer club basketball. During his time with the Georgia Metros Club,” Haigh added.

Huddleston spent parts of 19 seasons as part of the Georgia AAU circuit before heading up the Metros over the past three seasons. During his AAU coaching tenure, he helped coach 25 AAU All-Americans, 12 NIKE All-Americans, four McDonald’s High School All-Americans, one NCAA National Player of the Year, Five Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year Awardees and an Alabama Gatorade POY Awardee and over 100 players that earned scholarships in college. He also was the owner and operator of Top Prospects Basketball, a training program for male and female players pursuing basketball opportunities at the collegiate and professional levels. Through Top Prospects Basketball, he organized and operated events catering to the high school basketball community, including Maya’s Moore Merry Christmas Clinic.

“Matt helped the development of over 100 future college basketball players, including some of the best players in the world,” Haigh continued. ” His background in the corporate world and connections in the women’s basketball world can bring new ideas and help us continue to elevate the program.”

He earned his degree in Education from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. He joins a Red Flash staff and team that is coming off their conference-leading Northeast Conference title. Their 24 wins and 16 in conference play were the most since the 2004-05 season.
