Hill Announces Alterations to Western Carolina Women’s Basketball Staff

Western Carolina head women’s basketball coach Kiley Hill today announced alterations to his inaugural coaching staff ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Shyla Coleman, who was brought on board to take on the task as Director of Basketball Operations, has been promoted to assistant coach.

“Shyla has been extremely impressive from day one when I met her,” Hill said. “Her contagious personality, organizational skills, and unwavering focus to help others are qualities that fit an immediate need in a coaching role within our program. As she continues to grow and learn her recruiting skill set, there is zero doubt we have a rising star in purple.”

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity Coach [Kiley] Hill has presented to me,” said Coleman. “He sees my heart and my passion for both the game and building relationships with young people, and for that, I am thankful. I believe in the vision Coach Hill has for this program and am I blessed to be a part of it. I am also grateful for every supporter, sponsor, mentor, and player that has prepared me for this very moment. I’m looking forward to this new journey and can’t wait for everyone to witness the positive shift of our program.”

Additionally, Megan Brown joins the Catamount women’s basketball staff as the Director of Basketball Operations. Brown played basketball at University Southern Mississippi where Hill was the Associate Head Coach. She just completed her eligibility as a fifth-year senior working on her postgraduate degree in kinesiology after earning her bachelor’s degree in communications in 2017.

“Class, mature beyond her years, a servant leader, tireless worker, are just some of the ways I would describe Megan,” Hill said.  “We are so ecstatic she has decided to join our program.”

“Megan has been in the transition stage of a player to coaching role for the past year and a half in various ways during her time at Southern Miss,” Hill added. “We feel fortunate she has decided to continue her journey with us. She will be a loyal trust-worthy ambassador to catamount women’s basketball.”

“It is undeniable that I am supposed to be right here at Western Carolina, and I am thankful that this university, Coach Kiley Hill and his staff for bringing me on board to be a part of their family,” Brown said.  “Can you recall the feelings of witnessing something new for the first time? I kind of feel that way, full of wonder and hopeful anticipation for the journey that lies ahead. Most importantly to me, is that I get an opportunity to walk with young women through such an awesome part of their lives. And serve them as well as this community as my role as the Director of Basketball Operations.”

Brown played four years for the Lady Eagles at Southern Miss, ending her career with the third-longest consecutive starts streak for the team at 96 games in a row. She eclipsed 1,000 career points on a senior day making her the 27th member of the Southern Miss women’s basketball 1,000-point club, finishing her career ranked 24th in the 1,000-point club with 1,030 points.

A decorated student-athlete in the classroom, Brown was a four-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Medal (2014-15, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19), named to the Conference USA Honor Roll four times (2014-15, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19) and named to the Dean’s List three times (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19).
