Harvey named Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Lynchburg

The University of Lynchburg athletic department and Director of Athletics Jon Waters are excited to announce the hiring of Christina Harvey as the new head women’s basketball coach.

“Coach Harvey really impressed our committee with her passion for excellence and commitment to student success,” said Director of Athletics Jon Waters.

Harvey joins Lynchburg after serving as associate head basketball coach at Henderson State University since 2021, an NCAA Division II program in the Great American Conference. During her time at Henderson State, she helped guide the program to the 2024 GAC Tournament championship and contributed to the development of five 1,000-point scorers, five all-conference selections, one newcomer of the year, one all-region selection, and three All-GAC Tournament Team selections.

“I am honored and excited to accept the opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program here at the University of Lynchburg,” said head coach Christina Harvey. “I want to thank Athletic Director Jon Waters, the hiring committee and the University for their trust and confidence in me to lead this program. When I stepped on campus, I could feel the pride, energy, and commitment that makes Lynchburg a special place. I’m ready to start building meaningful relationships, investing in and developing our student-athletes on and off the court, while elevating the Lynchburg women’s basketball program to new heights.”

In her role at Henderson State, Harvey was responsible for all aspects of recruiting, coordinated summer camps, assisted with scouting and game planning, supported day-to-day program operations, and oversaw areas including community service, academics, team travel, and video exchange. She helped compile a program-best team GPA of 3.9 and earned WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll recognition at No. 21 and No. 9 during her tenure.

Before Henderson State, Harvey served as first assistant coach and player development coordinator at Young Harris College from 2019-21. She led scouting efforts, coordinated academics, community service, team travel, social media, and strength and conditioning, and helped the program reach the Peach Belt Conference Tournament for the first time in school history while posting its first winning record since 2013-14.

Harvey also spent two seasons as an assistant basketball coach and offensive coordinator at Gannon University from 2017-19. There, she helped the team rank second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in team field-goal percentage at 44 percent and contributed to the development of four PSAC West all-conference players, one PSAC West Freshman of the Year, 13 PSAC West Freshman of the Week honorees, and 14 PSAC Scholar-Athletes.

Harvey began her collegiate coaching career as first assistant basketball coach at Alvernia University from 2015-17. Before launching into her coaching career, she earned a Master of Science in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania, now PennWest California, in 2014. She earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Pfeiffer University in 2013 with a sports medicine concentration and a minor in athletic coaching.

Harvey was a standout during her collegiate playing days at Pfeiffer, concluding her career seventh all-time in program history with 1,200 career points. The forward averaged 16.8 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per outing as a senior in 2012-13, helping the Falcons advance to the Conference Carolinas Championship and second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. She scored over 20 points while playing every minute during the final two games of the conference tournament and both NCAA Tournament contests. Harvey was a three-year team captain and four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Her senior accolades included All-Conference Carolinas first team, Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team, NCAA Division II Southeast Region All-Tournament team and Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll.

She was named a WBCA Thirty Under 30 honoree as a coach in the 2018-19 season and is a WBCA member. Harvey is set to begin her duties immediately as she prepares to lead the Hornets and continue to uphold the standard of competitive success.
