Hartzler Promoted to Baldwin Wallace Associate Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Baldwin Wallace University Interim Director of Athletics John Snell ’87 and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Cheri Harrer are pleased to announce the promotion of Cody Hartzler from Assistant Coach to Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator.

“Cody is another rising star on our coaching staff,” said Snell. “He has been a major contributor to the continued high level of success of our Women’s Basketball program. Cody has learned the women’s OAC landscape very quickly and has been an extremely successful recruiter and game planner for the women’s program.  We are extremely fortunate to have someone of his caliber on this staff”.

Hartzler has risen up the ranks at BW rapidly, winning the Women’s Athletics Coach of the Year honor in 2015-16 as well as being named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 presented by Mariott Rewards® honoree.

Since joining the program, the Yellow Jackets have gone 101-37 (66-24 in the OAC), with Hartzler helping to mentor several All-OAC players and the team has reached two NCAA Tournaments since his arrival.

“Coach Hartzler is absolutely a big reason for our success the past 5 years,” said Harrer. “This title and promotion more accurately reflect all that he does for our program and BW. He is outstanding at building relationships and has a great basketball mind. He is an incredible and tireless recruiter. Our players love him not only because he is an excellent basketball coach but because of who he is as a person. There is no one that I would trust more to help lead our program.  He deserves as much credit as anyone for everything good that is happening in our program.”

BW opens its season on Friday, January 22 when it travels to the University of Mount Union in an OAC game at 7 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will return to host Mount Union at 6 p.m. for their home opener in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.
