Gibson Promoted at Hofstra

Michael Gibson, a 2008 graduate of Boston College, is in his eighth season on the staff of the Hofstra Women’s Basketball team and his first season as an assistant coach entering the 2015-16 campaign.

Gibson was promoted to role of assistant coach on Krista Kilburn-Steveskey’s staff after serving as Hofstra’s Director of Women’s Basketball Operations for the previous seven seasons. In his tenure at Hofstra, he has been part of three Women’s National Invitational Tournament qualifiers.

Gibson was responsible for all aspects of team travel, practice schedule coordination, monitoring and completion of all compliance logs, assisting with equipment orders as the director of operations. He served as the program liaison with marketing and facilities. In addition, he also serves as the non-conference game scheduling coordinator for the program, and is the director of the Krista Kilburn-Steveskey Basketball Camp.

While a student at Boston College, Gibson served as a student manager for the women’s basketball team from 2004-2008. He was promoted to head student manager in 2006 and served in that capacity until his graduation. During his tenure with the Eagles, Gibson coordinated practice and game assignments for the student managerial staff and also assisted the coaching staff with the filming and breakdown of game tape, as well as the Eagles’ film exchange program. Gibson also aided in the operations of the Cathy Inglese Basketball Camp at Boston College.

Gibson also helped in the facility department, as he was responsible for the setup and breakdown of the court and locker rooms at practices and games. As the head manager, he also worked hand-in-hand with the director of basketball operations to ensure that all aspects of team travel were executed. As a result of his time served as a student manager, Gibson received membership into Boston College’s Varsity Club, which is BC’s athletic alumni organization.

During his tenure at Boston College, the Eagles made two NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2006 following a second round showing in 2005. In 2008 the Eagles advanced to the third round of the WNIT.

Active in the greater Boston community, Gibson has served as a referee and scorekeeper with the Andover Church Basketball League.
