Gibbs named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Penn

Head coach Mike McLaughlin and the University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team are excited to announce the addition of Andre Gibbs to the coaching staff this upcoming season as a full-time assistant coach.
“I’m ecstatic to welcome Andre to the Penn Women’s Basketball program,” McLaughlin said. “His experience and skill set combined with his passion for teaching the game will make him a strong asset to an already knowledgeable and established coaching staff. More than anything, Andre will serve as an incredible mentor for our student-athletes both on and off the court.”
Gibbs, a Philadelphia University grad, returns to the City of Brotherly Love after spending this past season at Utah State as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Prior to his time with the Aggies, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Queens University of Charlotte, where he helped coach Kalaya Hall to All-SAC honors in 2021-22 and Amari Davis to All-freshman SAC honors in 2020-21.
He spent a season as a volunteer on the Bryn Mawr College staff before he left the area, where he assisted with the day-to-day operations of the program, player development and scouting of opponents.
Gibbs played and learned under Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame coach Herb McGee at PhilaU, now formerly merged with Jefferson University. He finished his collegiate career with 1,400 points and 350 assists, helping guide the Rams to 91 wins across four seasons. He was a part of two CACC championships and was named a Freshman All-American and CACC Rookie of the Year.
“I am so grateful and honored that Coach McLaughlin has added me to the Quakers family,” Gibbs said. “I am really excited I get to work with such an elite staff for a prestigious university. I am thrilled to get on campus, get to work and accomplish great things! Coming back to Philadelphia is a dream come true!”
The Quakers opens the 2023-24 campaign on November 11, hosting Marist in The Palestra.
