Franklin Returns to RMU as Assistant Coach

Robert Morris University women’s basketball head coach Charlie Buscaglia has announced the return of Amani Franklin as an assistant coach.

“It’s a great joy to have Coach Franklin back with the family,” said Buscaglia. “We look forward to her bringing back her passion once again to serve our program.”

Franklin was last at Robert Morris in the 2017-18 season as an assistant on Buscaglia’s staff. She helped lead the Colonials to a school-record 25 wins and a share of the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular-season title. RMU boasted the nation’s eighth best scoring defense at 54.1 points per game, which established a new program standard. The Colonials were once ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll in 2017-18 and ultimately played in the Postseason Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Prior to arriving in Moon Township, Franklin spent a year as the director of women’s basketball operations at Winthrop. Before that, she spent two years as a staff support associate at her alma mater Kentucky. In that position, her duties included management of day-to-day operations, overseeing the women’s basketball booster organization, travel arrangements, and special events.

As a player, Franklin helped lead Kentucky to the 2010 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. She appeared in 127 games over her four seasons in a Wildcats uniform, starting 76 of them. Franklin averaged 7.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per contest as a senior in 2009-10, and tallied a career-high 11.3 points per game in her junior season.

Following her collegiate career, Franklin played professional basketball in Germany and Finland from 2011 to 2013.

Franklin graduated from Kentucky in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and a minor in business.
