Former Eagle, Kaiya Coleman, Named as Women’s Basketball Director of Player Personnel

Coppin State women’s basketball head coach Laura Harper announced on Thursday that Kaiya Coleman has been hired as the Eagles’ Director of Player Personnel.  Coleman was on staff at Coppin last season as the program’s director of basketball operations.

“Kaiya is perfect for this position; her hunger, drive and eagerness to give back to her Alma Mater is contagious,” said Harper. “We are lucky to have someone as invested to Coppin State Women’s Basketball as Kaiya.”

Coleman played her final collegiate season for the Eagles during the 2018-19 campaign and averaged 6.4 points and 4.0 rebounds while starting in 13 of her 27 games.  Coleman also recorded 35 assists and 34 steals that season and converted on a buzzer-beating layup to defeat crosstown rival Morgan State in the First Round of the 2019 MEAC Tournament.

A native of Laurel, Md., Coleman transferred to Coppin following a season at University of District of Columbia where she played for current CSU men’s basketball coach Juan Dixon.  In her lone season with the Firebirds, Coleman put up 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists.  Coleman also played a pair of seasons at Shaw University and scored 126 points in 48 games.

The Eagles are scheduled to open the 2020-21 season at home against La Salle on Saturday, November 28.
