The California Baptist University women’s basketball staff added knowledge and experience with the hiring of Jason Flowers to the staff this week as he assumes the role of Director of Player Development for the Lancers.

Flowers is the former head women’s basketball coach of California State University Northridge and has a long list of accomplishments attached to his name, including leading the Matadors to three Big West titles as well as a trio of NCAA tournament appearances in the past decade.

“He is very experienced and he’s been very successful coaching teams in the NCAA Tournament and has [twice] been Big West Coach of the Year,” said CBU Head Coach Jarrod Olson. “He brings a wealth of knowledge that will help build up both our players and our coaches and we’re really excited to have him here”.

For the past 10 seasons, Flowers served as the head coach at CSUN (2010-20) and became the winningest coach in program history with 150 victories. He was named the Big West Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2014. During his tenure, the Matadors won the Big West Tournament three times and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2014, 2015 and 2018. CSUN captured the Big West regular season title during the 2013-14 campaign. Flowers coached three conference players of the year and over 20 all-conference selections.

Flowers’ began his collegiate-level basketball career as a player for UC Irvine and UCLA. Following his playing days, Flowers transitioned into coaching by starting as a men’s basketball volunteer assistant at UCLA (2001-03), before becoming the girls basketball head coach at Valley High School (2003-04). Flowers has also served as a women’s basketball assistant coach at Long Beach State (2004-08) and UC Riverside (2008-10).

“I’m excited about joining a program with the success of CBU Women’s basketball, which will allow me to grow as a coach. I’m as excited to be at the institution that is CBU, which will help me to continue to grow as a person,” said Flowers. “Jarrod has done an outstanding job leading the program, successfully competing against some of the top programs in America. CBU is a great opportunity for young women who want to grow as a people and players, while performing in one of the best venues in the country”.
