The No. 14 UW-Stevens Point women’s basketball team led from start to finish to earn head coach Shirley Egner’s 500th career victory with a 67-48 road win over UW-Platteville on Wednesday evening at Bo Ryan Court.
Shirley Egner is in her 27th season as head coach of the UW-Stevens Point women’s basketball team and is the all-time winningest coach in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history.
Egner has compiled a 500-214 overall record through 26+ seasons with the Pointers. Over the last 14 seasons, Coach Egner has guided the Pointers to an average of nearly 23 wins per season and the team’s 319-87 record over that span is the best mark of any WIAC team.
On November 16, 2014, Egner earned the 600th win of her coaching career as the Pointers defeated Martin Luther.
Egner is a four-time WIAC Coach of the Year honoree, earning the award in 2003-04, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2010-2011. In 2010, Egner was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
