Edgewood College Hires Head Coach

In wading through over 125 applicants, Director of Athletics Al Brisack and the women’s basketball head coach search committee had a certain type of individual in mind. In the final decision Chaia Huff fit those criteria and rose to the top of the list. Huff has accepted Edgewood College’s offer and will become the 13th women’s basketball coach in school history.

“What an honor to take on the role of head women’s basketball coach at Edgewood College,” said Huff. I am thrilled to be joining this outstanding college, the NACC and the Madison community. I am grateful to Director of Athletics Al Brisack and the Edgewood College Athletics staff for their confidence in me. I am eager to continue to build the women’s basketball program here for many years to come.”

Chaia Huff (first name pronounced KY-ah) comes to Edgewood College after one season as head coach at Grace University in Omaha, Neb. and six seasons in charge of the program at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill. At Grace, Huff took a team that had won eight total games in their previous two seasons combined and led them to a nine-win season against many of the NAIA’s strongest programs.

From 2009-15 at her alma mater Moody Bible Institute, Huff led the Archers to an 81-73 record over six seasons, including a school record 20-9 mark in the 2010-11 season. Moody Bible played in three NCCAA Division II Midwest Region championship games in a four year span from 2010 to 2013. This move marks a return for Huff, as her coaching career began in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. She spent two seasons as an assistant coach for Dominican University from 2007-09.

“I am excited to have Coach Huff join our Athletics Department,” said Brisack. “It is not often a search committee completes the process and has all the ‘need’ and ‘want’ boxes checked off. That’s exactly what happened in this process. With some outstanding final candidates, we got exactly the person we wanted. It is a great time to be a part of the Eagle women’s basketball program. Coach Huff will do an outstanding job leading the program into the future.”

Huff replaces Casey Thousand, the longest tenured coach in Edgewood College women’s basketball history. Thousand went 83-97 over seven seasons, and accepted an assistant coaching position at Northern Michigan University in June.
