Dzikas Returns to Florida Southern as Assistant Coach

Florida Southern College women’s basketball head coach Betsy Harris has announced the hiring of Megan Dzikas as the Moccasins’ new assistant coach. Dzikas, a former standout for the Mocs from 2008-12, returns to her alma mater after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Leo University.

“We are excited to have Megan back at Florida Southern as she brings coaching and playing experience with her and a deep love for our school and women’s basketball program,” Harris said. “I’ve known Megan for a few years now and I’ve been impressed with how she handles herself on and off the floor, with her commitment to the players and coaching staff, and her willingness to grow as a coach. We welcome Megan back home.”

In addition to her time at Saint Leo, Dzikas spent two seasons at the NAIA level as an assistant coach (2014-15) and head coach (2015-16) at St. Catharine College in Kentucky. Prior to her stint at St. Catharine, she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Goucher College, a Division III institution in Maryland.

“I feel honored and grateful to return home to Florida Southern,” Dzikas said. “I want to thank Coach Harris for the opportunity to become a Moc once again and to continue the established winning tradition for the women’s basketball program, on and off the court.”

A two-time all-Sunshine State Conference player for the Moccasins during her collegiate career, Dzikas helped lead Florida Southern to an 87-31 record, including a 49-9 mark in conference play. She also led the Mocs to a pair of SSC regular-season titles and one SSC Tournament championship. Dzikas was also part of a team that finished as the runner-up in the NCAA South Regional in back-to-back seasons. She was the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008-09.

She finished her career with 1,368 points, good for 12th in program history, and ranks second in school history in assists (515). She also ranks among the top five in FSC history in three-pointers made and attempted, and three-point percentage.

An honorable mention all-SSC selection as a sophomore, Dzikas closed out her Florida Southern career by earning second team all-SSC honors after helping lead the Moccasins to a 24-7 record and an NCAA South Region runner-up finish as a senior.

Dzikas has been honored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) by earning a spot on the annual 2017 WBCA “Thirty Under 30” list, which recognizes the top up-and-coming coaches in women’s basketball.

A 2012 graduate of Florida Southern with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Dzikas also earned her master’s degree in education from Goucher College in 2014.
