Detroit staff update

University of Detroit Mercy women’s basketball head coach Autumn Rademacher continues to round out her sideline with the announcement that Dean Ristovski has been named an assistant coach, while John Kenger will work with the team as a graduate assistant coach.

"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Dean Ristovski and John Kenger to our coaching staff," said Coach Rademacher. "Dean’s reputation in the area of player development and coaching in the Detroit Metropolitan area is outstanding and John has coaching experience at the collegiate level and has assisted in the development of many Division I student athletes."

Ristovski brings some extensive coaching experience to Dick Vitale Court with over 15 years on the sidelines for AAU, high school and junior high. He recently served as an assistant coach with the Sterling Heights Wizards AAU program working with the girl’s U-11 through U-16 teams since 2004.

"Coach Ristovski has worked directly with highly recruited student-athletes in the state of Michigan and has built ties with high school and AAU coaches that will be beneficial to the UDM women’s basketball program," said Coach Rademacher. "He has turned out a Michigan Miss Basketball (Madison Ristovski in 2012) and a Michigan Class C Player of the Year, who will be a freshman in the fall at UDM in Haleigh Ristovski, and we welcome Coach Ristovski to the Detroit Titan family and look forward to him contributing to the success of our program immediately."

He was also an assistant coach at L’Anse Creuse North High School in Macomb from 2006-07 and served as head coach of the boys and girls program at University Liggett High School from 2000-06, where he won a District Boys Championship and was named the Metro Conference Coach of the Year.

"I am very excited about the opportunity that Coach Rademacher has extended to me," said Coach Ristovski. "Coach Rademacher is very passionate and has proven that the University of Detroit Mercy will win championships under her guidance. She exemplifies what it takes to be a champion and it is a privilege to be able to work with her, the student athletes, the UDM athletic department staff, and this prestigious institution."

Ristovski has worked a number of renowned camps including the Chauncey Billups MVP, AAU adidas All-Star Girls Invite, Grant Hill’s Summer Hoopla and Allan Houston’s All-Star Shooters Camp.

A 2008 graduate of Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Ristovski is a certified Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) official and has been in that capacity since 1998. He has also worked at the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse in Shelby Township as a personal coach for basketball since 2000 and as a facility manager and program coordinator since 2007.

Kenger already has some collegiate coaching experience in his background as he was an assistant coach for three seasons (2009-12) at nearby Madonna University. With the Crusaders, he worked with the guards as well as aided with in-game strategy, scouting, recruiting and video break down.

"Coach Kenger has volunteered at our summer basketball camps, attended numerous practices, and has showed a great amount of dedication to our program," said Coach Rademacher. "He expressed an interest in serving our team in any capacity and he is the perfect fit for this position. I am looking forward to John bringing his experiences and knowledge to the Detroit Titan family."

During his time at Madonna, he helped the program reach three-straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) semifinals appearances, including the league’s championship game in 2010. He also helped a pair of Crusaders earn All-League honors as well as one student-athlete selected as a NAIA All-American.

Kenger’s other coaching stops have come at the prep level at Ladywood High School as well at Saint Genevieve grade school. He posted an overall record of 73-24 during his eight years at the helm at St. Genevieve winning a CYO Championship during the 2007-08 season and was also the head junior varsity coach at Ladywood, winning the Catholic High School League sectional championship in 2009.

He is a former director of the Lady Sun Devils AAU program and has also coached with the Blue Angels boy’s AAU program, guiding the U-13 and U-14 teams to a national runner-up finish in 2010 and 2011.

"I am very excited to start my first year at the University of Detroit Mercy. I can’t thank Coach Rademacher enough for giving me this opportunity. The atmosphere here is electric and I am anxious for the season to start," added Coach Kenger.

With Detroit, Kenger will mainly assist with video breakdown of opponents for scouting and game planning as well as with day-to-day office activities. He is a 2007 graduate of Madonna with a degree in Sports Management and is currently pursuing his masters in Liberal Studies at UDM.
