Dawson CC Women’s Basketball Announces 2022-23 Coaching Staff


The Dawson Community College women’s basketball program, led by Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.,
has announced their coaching staff for the 2022-23 campaign.

Richard Mullin and Trace Gentry will serve as assistant coaches for this upcoming season. Both Mullin
and Gentry will enter their first season with the team.
“Having both individuals on our staff is truly a blessing to this program. Mullin and Gentry bring sincere
care to the program that align with the necessary guidance and leadership our program has established.
Both are willing and able to make sure this program is headed in the right direction in all regards to
success in basketball, academics and life learning skills,” Lagmay said.
Mullin previously served as a staff member at Point Guard College (PGC) for the past eight years. His
last collegiate affiliation was when he served as the men’s basketball assistant video coordinator at
NCAA Division I University of South Florida in 2018, contributing the most wins in a single season in the
program’s 50-year history. That team went on to win the CBI Championship.
Coach Mullin has over 25 years of coaching and leadership experience in athletics and business. In
2008-2009, he started coaching high school basketball and football at Elfers Christian High School in
New Port Richey, FL, and he helped the football team achieve the most successful season in the
program’s history. The basketball teams improved during his tenure, eventually winning district and
conference championships. Mullin also coached travel teams for Westcoast Florida Magic in 2013 and
Bay Area Elite in 2014. He went on to coach the winning team in the Bay Area Elite girl’s all-star game.
In Florida, Mullin helped coached the J.W. Mitchell High School boy’s basketball program in 2015 and
won the 6A district championship in 2016. In 2017, he helped Calvary Christian High School achieve the
best single season record in school history, and won the summer league championship.
Mullin is from Beacon, NY and has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Gentry recently finished as the graduate assistant women’s basketball coach at NCAA Division I Tarleton
State University in Texas. He started out at as a male practice player and student assistant prior to being
elevated to a GA position. While at Tarleton, Gentry helped coach several notable players who went on
to become conference honorable mentions and program and conference record breaking statistical
leaders. Tarleton State made a huge turnaround record from 9-16 in 2021 to 16-13 in 2022.
As a former basketball athlete playing at NJCAA Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois,
Gentry was a two-year starter from 2016-2018. He had a total of 614 career points, 166 made 3-
pointers, best 3-point percentage in the conference, was top 20 in the nation in career 3-point
percentage and nationally ranked top 25 in made 3’s. Gentry was also voted third team All-Conference.
At Roxana High School in Illinois, he was named 2016 All-State Honorable Mention and 1 st Team All-Area
Southern Illinois, as well as 1 st Team All-Conference in both his junior and senior years. He was 2 nd Teamhis sophomore season. Gentry was a 1,000 point scorer, and holds the 3-point record in a single season and for his career.
Gentry is from Roxana, IL and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Kinesiology.
