Darrell Mosley Named Head Coach at Lincoln University

After serving as an assistant coach for five seasons on the men’s basketball staff, Darrell Mosley was named Head Coach of the women’s basketball program at Lincoln University, effective immediately.

“Coach Darrell Mosley has earned this opportunity by virtue of his hard work, dedication and “let’s get it done attitude,” says LU Athletic Director, Dr. Darryl A. Pope. “He loves Lincoln and has proven his loyalty and commitment to the program. The women’s team was excited when they heard the news because Coach Mosley has always been a supporter of their efforts. The team and the program is in good hands with this Lincoln graduate and student of the game,” Pope continued.

“I am excited about this opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program at my alma mater. I would like to thank the Lincoln University Administration and alumni for their support,” said Mosley.

The Lions men’s basketball program accumulated a 53-30 overall record in the last three seasons and ranked among the top three teams in the CIAA Northern Division in all three seasons. The 2014-15 Lions finished 16-11 and led the CIAA in free-throws made per game (19.7), free-throws attempted per game (29.3), while ranking second in blocks per game (4.6).

The Lions had their first 20 win season as a Division II institution during the 2013-14 season. When competing in Manuel Rivera Hall they were at their best compiling a record of 13-2. The team finished the season with a 20-9 record which included a 10-6 CIAA campaign. A senior driven squad capped their 2013-14 season by winning the 2014 ECAC Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship in Fairfield, CT. After a close 71-68 victory in the semifinal round over Dominican University, the Lions notched their 20th win of the season defeating Caldwell University 65-49 in the championship game.

During the 2012 – 2013 season, Lincoln experienced a 30 percent increase in success by netting a record of 17-10 and becoming the CIAA Northern Division Conference Champions. Additionally, Mosley’s top recruit, Kenny Sharp, earned First Team All-Conference. Being predicted to finish fifth in conference, Lincoln further exceeded expectations finishing first in the division and earning a first-round bye in the CIAA Conference Tournament.

For the 2011 – 2012 season, Mosley took over all responsibilities of the full-time assistant by adding the duties of recruiting, pre- season and post-season workouts, and conditioning. Mosley became more hands on with team travel and expenses as well as academic development. Mosley assisted with the remarkable turnaround in the program who ended the season 11-18 and seeing a 25% increase in success from the previous season. Additionally, guard Denzel Mooney won his second consecutive First Team All-Conference award for his senior year. Behind Mooney, guard Kenny Sharp was the second-leading scorer on the team.

In the fall of 2010, Mosley returned to complete his final semester as a student-assistant coach, where his responsibilities include skill and development, scouting reports, pre-practice, watching film, strength and condition, player personnel, monitor study hall and game strategy. Denzel Mooney saw a drastic improvement in his productivity while being mentored by Mosley and went from averaging 5 ppg as a sophomore to 21 ppg for his Junior year and winning 1st Team All-Conference recognition.
