Dallas Christian hires Morefield as new WBB Head Coach

Director of Athletics Gregg Mucerino announced the hire of new Head Women’s Basketball Coach Mark Morefield. Mucerino shared his thoughts on his new Women’s Basketball Coach. “We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Mark Morefield to lead our WBB program. He comes to us with an extensive and accomplished coaching background. Coach Morefield’s time under Baylor HC Scott Drew and Valparaiso HC Homer Drew have well prepared him to be an extremely successful HC with a 779 winning %,” said Mucerino. “I eagerly await the genuine and thorough program building skills Coach Morefield will bring to DCC and more excited about his 1Corinthians 9:24 focus to strive for the crowns with dedication to lead spiritually as he rebuilds and commits our program to Jesus!”
 
Morefield has extensive experience at the NCAA Division I coaching level. Morefield attained his Bachelor of Science in Business Management at Valparaiso University. Morefield served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator at Valparaiso University from 1998-2003 where they had 20 four-win seasons and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 1999, 2000, and 2002. Morefield served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Baylor University from 2003-2011 on the staff of National Championship Head Coach Scott Drew. Morefield’s achievements while he was on staff at Baylor include Recruiting/ Offensive Coordinator, coached 3 NBA players, including two first round picks, 2 NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite 8 appearance and an NIT Championship game appearance.
 
Morefield also served as a scout/ assistant coach for the Texas Legends in the NBA G-League from 2011-2012. His duties consisted of opponent scouting and developed NBA G-League draft reports. Morefield served as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor from 2015-2023. His career record during his time at UMHB was 159-50. (.761 winning percentage) He had a conference record of 95-27. (.779 winning percentage.) He has an NCAA tournament record of a 6-2 and is the winningest coach in program history at UMHB. Morefield was named Coach of the Year in 2019, 2020. He led them to three Sweet 16 appearances in 2019, 2020, and 2022. He was also named WBCA D3 Coach of the year.
 
During Morefield’s 8 years at UMHB, he led them to 3 ASC West Division Champions, and 2022 ASC Champions, as well as 2020-2021 ASC Tournament Champions.
