The Elms College Athletic Department is pleased to announce Denisha Parks as its next Head Women’s Basketball Coach. An Elms alumnus, Denisha is also in the Elms College Hall of Fame. She is arguably the best women’s basketball player in Elms College’s history to date.
“Elms College and this program have had a major impact on my life. The opportunity to come back and represent this institution as a professional is a dream come true – I would like to thank Mike Theulen and the athletic department for providing me with this opportunity to lead this program” – Denisha Parks
Denisha hails from Fall River, MA and joined the Elms College Women’s Basketball Program in the 2011-2012 academic year, graduating in 2015 with degrees in Marketing and Sports Management.
During her time as a STUDENT-athlete at Elms, Parks set and still currently holds eleven of the program’s records, scoring over 2,000 points and hauling in over 1,000 rebounds. Other achievements include being a 4-year New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference First Team selection, NECC Conference Player of the Year for two years, and All-Region Team for three years. Parks was also part of the 2012 Women’s Basketball team when the team received a bid to the NCAA Tournament. After her collegiate years, Parks was later named to the ALL-Decade team in the New England Region in 2020.
Prior to returning to Elms, the Hall of Famer took her coaching talents to Clark University in Worcester, MA where she worked alongside Pat Gilspin for five years. In addition to her duties as an assistant coach, Parks was a Success Advisor for first-year students at Clark. Most recently Parks was an assistant Women’s Basketball coach at Worcester State University, working with Karen Tessmer, before making the jump to head coach of her own program here at Elms.
“I am grateful for my mentors along the way who prepared me for this next step in my career. I would also like to thank my predecessors who paved the way before me leading the Blazers with passion and pride. I am looking forward to getting to work with the team through educating and learning from each of them” – Parks
The Blazer athletic family and department is very excited to have someone who had such an impact on the Women’s Basketball Program back in the offices.
“On behalf of the Elms College Blazer Athletic Family, we are ecstatic to welcome Coach Parks back home. On top of her undeniable legacy of excellence here as a student, an athlete, and a leader, Denisha brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with our entire STUDENT-athlete population. Look for great things to happen in our Women’s Basketball Program under Coach Parks’ watch.”
