D1 DIRT: Merritt out as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb has not yet issued an official press release, but Scott Merritt is no longer listed as the head coach of the Bulldogs women’s basketball team. Assistant coach Katie Nelson appears to have stepped into the role on an interim basis.

Merritt was in his second season leading the program after previously serving as the associate head coach at Wisconsin. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs finished last season with a 6-24 record (5-11 Big South). This season, the team currently holds a 9-13 record (6-4 Big South).

Nelson, a former collegiate player at Boston University and Wisconsin, joined the Gardner-Webb coaching staff last season after completing her tenure as a graduate assistant at Wisconsin.

An official statement from Gardner-Webb is expected soon.
