Coaches Find a Recruiting Edge by Building Winning Habits

“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”

Vince Lombardi might not have coached hoops, but his thoughts on developing winning habits still ring true on the hardwood.

While there’s no substitute for putting in the work to develop a winning culture, hundreds of college basketball teams have found a tool that helps provide a structure for positive habits.

“TeamSynced eliminates so many excuses and helps promote a culture of accountability,” says Josh Eilert, Director of Operations for West Virginia men’s basketball. “It has been a valuable asset to the communication within our program. Everything our team needs to know is at their fingertips.”

TeamSynced, an athletics-specific operations platform, provides scheduling, messaging and organizational tools for student-athletes and coaches alike, right on their smartphones.

“It plays a crucial role in the day-to-day and long term planning organization of our program,” says Christine McCollum, Director of Operations for Penn Women’s Basketball. “TeamSynced allows us to do everything we need to do in a very efficient and professional way.”

TeamSynced also helps build positive habits is with the ‘Check-Ins’ feature, which allows coaches to make sure athletes attend class, without spending hours walking campus.

And in an era in which college programs are in an arms race to attract top talent, building a winning culture off-the-court can still be a deciding differentiator for recruiting — especially for player’s parents.

“Most parents are speechless when we show them TeamSynced,” says Derek Pugh, Assistant Coach at Fairmont State University. “They definitely love seeing that we care about their kid academically, as well as athletically.”
