Clemson staff update

Clemson Head Women’s Basketball Coach Audra Smith announced the addition of Daryl Oliver and Marc Wilson to her staff on Friday. Oliver will serve as Associate Head Coach, while Wilson joins as an Assistant Coach. Both Oliver and Wilson come to Clemson from UAB, where they served on the Blazer staff with Smith.

“I am delighted to have Coach Oliver and Coach Wilson join me at Clemson,” said Smith, who was named to the post at Clemson on April 8 after spending nine seasons at UAB. “Each of these accomplished coaches will be valuable in all areas of our program, and bring a tremendous amount of energy on and off the court. They are the type of coaches Clemson will be proud to have representing them on the recruiting trail.”

Both coaches were with UAB the past four seasons, in which the Blazers won 74 games and made two postseason appearances, including the WBI Championship and 20 wins in 2011.

Oliver will be responsible for coordinating the Lady Tiger offense and working with the guards, while Wilson will handle the defense and coach the post players.

Oliver has been with Smith for a total of 11 years. He and Smith were on the Virginia staff as assistant coaches under Debbie Ryan in 2002-03 and 2003-04. When Smith was brought in at UAB in 2004-05, Oliver went with her to the Blazer staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Oliver worked primarily with the guards, coaching six All-Conference USA selections.

Oliver was a standout at the University of Richmond, where he was named the CAA Tournament MVP in 1998, and was a two-time team captain.

Wilson spent the previous four seasons at UAB as an assistant coach and posts coach. He has been Smith’s defensive coordinator, and is heavily credited for leading the Blazers to three straight top-50 scoring defenses, including the third-best mark in the nation in 2011-12.

Prior to joining the Blazers, Wilson spent three seasons at Indiana (2006-09), two seasons at Kent State (2004-06), and four seasons at the University of Rhode Island (2001-04), and four seasons at his Alma Mater, the University of Minnesota (1997-2001). He recruited three WNBA draft picks throughout his career, including the No. 1 overall pick in 2005, Janel McCarville.

Wilson was a four-year letterwinner and All-Big Ten selection at Minnesota, where he scored 1,386 points and had 375 assists in his career.
