Cincinnati adds Owings as WBB DBO

University of Cincinnati women’s basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather announced Abby Owings as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations on Monday.

“Abby Owings is someone who I have watched over the years and always been impressed with her professionalism, work ethic and how she develops relationships,” Merriweather said. “We are fortunate to have her, and I am excited for the impact she will have on our program on and off the court.”

Owings most recently served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Eastern Kentucky for the past two seasons. She assisted the Colonels to a 33-30 record, including a 22-8 home mark, and orchestrated recruiting efforts in their transition to the ASUN conference.

Prior to her latest stint, Owings served in the same role at Bellarmine for its transition to Division I basketball in the 2020-21 season. She spent the 2019-20 season at Shawnee State, where she assisted the Bears to a 29-4 record and a Mid-South Conference Tournament title. She was instrumental in the development of All-Conference Player of the Year Bailey Cummins and Brandie Snow, who were both named NAIA All-Americans.

Owings started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Morehead State in 2018-19, helping lead the program to a 24-11 record, second-place regular season finish in the Ohio Valley conference and an appearance in the WNIT second round.

A three-time team captain, Owings concluded her collegiate career as one of the most accomplished players in Thomas More history. She currently ranks second in program history with 1,789 points, second with 264 three-point field goals made and fourth with 434 assists. Owings was named a three-time D3Hoops.com All-American and two-time WBCA All-American, while leading the team to two NCAA DIII National Championships and three DIII final four appearances. The Independence, Ky. native concluded her collegiate career with a 124-3 and 72-0 conference record.
