Chandler Named Interim Head Coach at Blackburn College

Blackburn College is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. James Chandler as its Women’s Basketball Interim Head Coach for the 2017-18 season. Chandler recently retired after 25 years as teacher, coach, administrator and superintendent of schools in Missouri.

Chandler has been a successful Head Basketball Coach for eleven years at various schools in Missouri, and has accumulated a 203-100 career record, a 67% winning percentage. His coaching record includes four 20-plus win seasons, with two final four finishes. Chandler’s teams finished as state runner-up twice, two-time district champions, with six district championship game appearances, three conference championships in addition to two conference runner-up finishes.

In his time as head coach, Chandler had 16 players sign scholarships, six All-State players, 21 All-District picks, 29 All-Area and 33 All-Conference choices in 11 years. These players have gone on to play at all levels from Division I, II and III, NAIA, JUCO and professionally in the NBADL and overseas.

Coach Chandler is a proud graduate of Blackburn College and alumnus of the basketball program. He was an all-conference player at Blackburn and represented the College as a player on a tour of New Zealand and Australia in 1987 with the National Small College Athletic Association All Star team.

“Jim is an excellent candidate to fill this position and he is excited to have the opportunity to coach at Blackburn and help build the women’s basketball program”, said Blackburn’s Athletic Director, John Malin.  “Jim has an accomplished career as a teacher, coach and administrator and we are fortunate to him take over the leadership role for the program.
