Carrillo named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Graceland

The Graceland University Women’s Basketball program has announced the hiring of Stephanee Carrillo as the assistant coach.  Coach Carrillo’s most recent position was as the assistant coach at the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.

“I am beyond excited to be joining the Graceland community”, said Carrillo. “I’m thrilled to be working alongside Coach Tran and the rest of her staff, she’s building something great and I’m excited to bring my personal assets and energy to the program. I’m looking forward to getting on campus and getting to work!”

Stephanee joins the Yellowjacket coaching staff with just over two years of experience at the collegiate level.  This past year while at the University of the Southwest, she was the strength and conditioning coordinator for the women’s basketball team.  From June 2018 to August of 2020, Carrillo was at New Mexico Junior College where she assisted in all aspects of games and practices.  In addition, she conducted training camps and clinics.

Head coach Uyen Tran commented, “I’m happy to welcome Stephanee as a member of our staff, but also into our program and university! I know her through a mutual friend of ours and have heard nothing, but good things about her. She’s been a grinder her entire career thus far and that’s what I think makes her a good fit. She’s seen success at the junior college ranks, being at New Mexico Junior College, and has been in the NAIA atmosphere already to know what it takes. With where our program is heading into the next year, I believe Coach Steph will bring vital knowledge, energy, and overall a good work ethic to build onto our foundation. I’m excited to welcome Coach Steph to our Graceland community!”

Carrillo was a former player for the University of the Southwest from 2013-17 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Kinesiology & Exercise Science.  She went on to receive her master’s in Kinesiology & Exercise Science in May of 2018.

Student assistant coach Ian Keiderling commented, “We are excited to have Stephanee Carrillo join our basketball family. From her prior experience, it was clear that her work ethic and detail to building genuine relationships shine, which connects with our core values as a program. We are excited to continue build on the growth from the previous season, and we look forward to having Coach Steph assist in this momentum!”
