Butler promoted to assistant coach at Nevada

Nevada women’s basketball coach Jane Albright has announced the promotion within her staff of Janet Butler from director of operations to assistant coach.

Butler replaces former assistant coach Julie Rousseau, who left the program in mid-May to pursue a doctorate degree from Arizona State University.

“Janet has been with us in multiple roles over the years and during that time she certainly established herself as an integral part of our staff,” Albright said. “When Julie left to pursue her PhD, it was a no brainer to move Janet to that spot. She is a tireless worker, enthusiastic, has a great basketball mind and will add to every aspect of our basketball program. I believe she is one of the bright up and coming coaches in our game.”

This marks Butler’s second promotion during her tenure with the Wolf Pack women’s basketball program. The Louisiana native has been with Pack for three seasons, serving the last two as the team’s director of operations. She began her time at Nevada during the 2012-13 campaign as the program’s graduate assistant.

“I am beyond excited to step into this position here at Nevada under Jane’s leadership,” said Butler. “Being a part of the Pack family means so much to me, and I am very thankful for this opportunity to continue being a part of such a special program and university.”

Prior to her time in Reno, Butler spent one season as an assistant coach in her home state at Division I Louisiana-Monroe. She earned her undergraduate degree in 2011 from Louisiana College, and received her master’s degree from Nevada last May.

During her collegiate playing days Butler helped lead Louisiana College to a 25-4 record as a senior captain in 2010-11, ultimately reaching the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. She was a three-time All-American Southwest Conference honorable mention selection as well. Louisiana College was nationally ranked twice, won two conference championships and made two national tournament appearances during Butler’s career.
