Burnett named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Montreat College

Krys Burnett has been hired as the assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at Montreat College. She begins her duties immediately as the season for women’s basketball is expected to start in late October.

Burnett comes to the Cavalier family following three years as the head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Clark Montessori High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. While with the Cougars in her hometown, Burnett led the team to its furthest post-season run in school history. In her first year at Clark Montessori, Burnett collected the MVC Conference Coach of the Year award.

Head women’s basketball coach, Tim Lewis, noted, “We are grateful to have Coach Krys [Burnett] join our program. She brings a passion for the game, a hunger to continue developing as a coach and most importantly, a desire to help our young ladies continue to grow through and beyond the game of basketball.”

The Cincinnati native assisted her community over the course of her time in the area by also helping inner-city youth. Burnett spent time as an associate program director and coach for Phenomenal Youth, an inner-city AAU program in Cincy, where she developed elite teams during the offseason. In 2020 and 2021, athletes received basketball scholarships to play at the next level across several divisions.

Prior to her coaching experience, Burnett played basketball for Clermont College from 2003-2005.

“I am blessed beyond measure for the opportunity Coach Lewis and Montreat College have given me,” Burnett stated. She added, “At this point in my life, being a servant-leader is one of the most important values and I could not imagine a better institution at which to begin my college coaching career. I’m thrilled to join the Montreat community and get to work.”

Burnett graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2008 where she obtained a degree in communications. As Burnett continued her educational studies, she earned her masters in multi-cultural special education from Mount St. Joseph University in 2016.

The women’s basketball team is slated to begin its 2021-22 season in late October, when Burnett will have her first opportunity to assist the Cavs during competition.
