Buffalo State has named Kevin Clifford, formerly of Mount St. Vincent, the eighth head coach in the history of its women’s basketball program.
Clifford most recently served as the head coach at Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y. for the past three seasons where he led a dramatic turnaround that culminated in the program’s first-ever Skyline Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA playoffs last season. Clifford inherited a program that went 17-27 in the two seasons prior to his arrival, and produced a 47-34 record in his three years, including a 22-6 mark in 2014-15.
Clifford began his college coaching career at the City College of New York (CCNY), spending two years as an assistant with the men’s team and five seasons as the head coach of the women’s program. He also has experience coaching at the high school and AAU levels, including stints with the NYC Lady Bulldogs and the Woodside Fighting Phoenix and Warriors.
A four-year college basketball player at the Division I and Division II levels, Clifford earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in education from Sacred Heart. He went on to complete his master’s in elementary education at CCNY.
